JCBank Senior Vice President, Chief Commercial Lending Officer David Richardson is pleased to announce the hiring of Martin Bales as Vice President, Commercial Banker for the Johnson County market. In this role, Bales will focus on expanding JCBank’s commercial footprint and driving business growth throughout Johnson County.
Bales joins JCBank with a distinguished background in commercial credit and a proven reputation for developing long-term, trust-based partnerships with business owners. His expertise spans a wide range of financial services, including real estate lending, equipment financing, and working capital solutions.

Most recently, Bales served as Vice President, Business Lending at IU Credit Union, where he managed the end-to-end commercial loan process, specializing in commercial and residential real estate lending, equipment financing, and operating lines of credit. With a banking career spanning nearly 40 years, Bales possesses extensive expertise in underwriting commercial credit, managing diverse lending portfolios, and advising business owners for expansion and acquisition. His career also includes experience in retail banking leadership, where he earned consistent recognition for excellence in small business lending and sales.
At JCBank, Bales will leverage his disciplined underwriting approach and leadership experience to provide Johnson County businesses with tailored credit solutions and responsive local support.
Beyond his banking career, Bales served as an adjunct accounting instructor at Indiana Wesleyan University and Ivy Tech Community. He holds both an MBA with an Accounting Specialization and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University. Deeply committed to the community, Bales currently serves on the board for the United Way of Johnson County.
